“6. Did you rent a car? Good move! You’ll find plenty of convenient free parking all over the city. Just look for curbs painted blue and marked with a guy in a chair. This is Tourist Parking, and the guy in the chair is a lazy tourist who just wants to sit down. Like you!”

Fascinating and kind of disgusting 9-minute TED talk on the many products containing pig parts… I didn’t know about many of these, like concrete and bullets.

Is OpenTable worth it? - Chris Cosentino and Mark... →
Interesting article on the economics behind OpenTable, which were pretty eye-opening to me. Those fees seem awfully high, but at the same time, if a restaurant’s not on OpenTable I’ll usually just make a reservation somewhere else, because I’m lazy. In that case, the $10 for my $200 bill for 4 people seems cheap, because in the alternative they wouldn’t have gotten our...

The Extra Lens: Undercard < PopMatters →
Mostly favorable review of the new album from John Darnielle’s side project. Personally, my favorite track on the album is “How I Left the Ministry” — the lyrics are just the perfect example of Darnielle’s unique skill in capturing a momentary slice of life. The instrumentation’s a great accompaniment as well. Definitely give it a listen.

Cat bin woman Mary Bale fined £250 | World news |... →
Wow. Criminal that she didn’t even get a paltry 6 months in jail. She needs to be off the streets where she’s not able to harm other animals.

eMusic Switching to Pay-per-Track System →
Bummer… so what used to get you (on my plan) 50 tracks a month for $20 will now get you as few as 26 tracks under the new system (continuing members get a monthly “bonus,” in my case I’ll pay $20 for $23 of music). Not sure whether I will keep my subscription. Probably not. We’ll see how many tracks are actually only priced at $0.49, which they say will apply to...

What Did They Ever Do to This Guy? Creator Weezer... →
“Why would anyone try to raise $10 million for the sole purpose of persuading Weezer to break up? In a telephone interview on Wednesday evening, James Burns, the architect of the Web-based fund-raising drive covered earlier on ArtsBeat, explained the motivation for what he admitted was a “silly” campaign.”
